Description

The design of the Turquoise ‘Plaque’ Console is inspired from the famous bronze inlaid plaques unearthed during the Erlitou Culture 4000 years ago. From a contemporary perspective, this work draws on the elliptical and convex forms of these precious artefacts, presented in a dynamic and original design.

In order to bring such an iconic piece to the 21st Century, the frame of the console was streamlined to give a modern and rejuvenated aesthetic, preserving the essential elements and keeping the piece in its purest form.  

Carved from an entire block of bronze metal, the top surface has been inlaid meticulously to give the appearance of a crocodile’s skin, a comparatively similar pattern traditionally found in the Erlitou plaques. Composed of over 2000 turquoise pieces, the stones gradually decrease in size as they centre towards the middle, producing a stunning pattern fitting perfectly together.
